Philaretos 2 was a grandson of Philaretos 1 (St Philaretos), son of Michael 2 and Euanthia 1, brother of Anthis 1, Niketas 7, Petros 4, Kosmou 1 and Hypatia 2: Nicetas, Vita Philareti, p. 141, line 23. The family was of Armenian descent; see Maria 2.
