Maria 7 was the wife of Sergios 58, mother of St Gregory the Decapolite (Gregorios 79); they lived at Eirenopolis in the Decapolis in Isauria; she was a devout person and brought her son up to be the same: Ignatius, Vita Greg. Dec. 2. She had a brother who was a monk (Anonymus 285): Ignatius, Vita Greg. Dec. 4. She and her husband (Sergios 58) tried to arrange a marriage for Gregorios 79: Ignatius, Vita Greg. Dec. 3. After her husband's death she encouraged Gregorios 79 in his ambition to become a monk and persuaded him to enter the monastery in which her own brother was a monk (Anonymus 285): Ignatius, Vita Greg. Dec. 4.
