Anonymus 285 was the brother of Maria 7 (and therefore brother also of Symeon 14 and uncle of Gregory the Decapolite, Gregorios 79); he was a monk at a monastery in the Decapolis in Isauria, to which Gregorios 79 went at his mother (Maria 7)'s request in order to share the trials of a monastic life with his relative: Ignatius, Vita Greg. Dec. 4.
