Zuhayr 1 (Zuhair ibn Qays al-Balawi) was put over Africa by `Abd al-`Aziz (Abdul Aziz 2), under the caliph `Abd al-Malik (Abdulmalik 1); he conquered Tunis, left for Barca, and was killed by a band of Greeks landing from their ships; he was succeeded by Hassan (Asan 1): Baladhuri, tr. Hitti, p. 360.
