Synesios 2 was a eunuch ("Sinesium eunuchum"); he was an envoy with Anthimos 17 sent in 765 to the Franks by the emperor Constantine V (Konstantinos 7) to discuss a marriage between Constantine's son Leo 4 and the daughter of Pepin 1, Gisela 1; they also discussed the issue of the veneration of icons; Synesios 2 was detained for a period in Francia when Anthimos 17 returned to Constantinople with a Frankish embassy: MGH, Epp. III 1, 545ff.
