Siconulf 1 was ruler of the Beneventani ("Beneventanorum princeps"); in 844 he went to Rome, accompanied by a large number of soldiers, and was received by king Louis (Lodoïchos 1) with honours; he put a number of requests to the king, all of which were granted; he also had an audience with the bishop of Rome, pope Sergius II (Sergios 60), and prostrated himself before him, before receiving his blessing and leaving giving thanks to God: Lib. Pont. 104. 17. See [Duchesne, Lib. Pont. II, p. 102, n. 12], citing Erchempert, Hist. Lang.
