Proterios 1 was a Stoudite monk; addressee of two letters from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) written in early 818: Theod. Stud., Ep. 297, p. 436 (a. 818 Januray/February); Ep. 303, pp. 445-446 (a. 818 spring) (both addressed Προτερίῳ τέκνῳ). He is mentioned in eleven further letters from Theodoros 15, all written between 815 and 826, where he is referred to as ὁ ἀδελφὸς Προτέριος (or similar); he often delivered letters of Theodoros 15 to the addressees: Theod.
