Polychronios 1 was the bishop of Theopolis, also called Prousa, in Bithynia; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September): Riedinger II 2. 690-826 (= Mansi XI 616-676). At the time he was an old man and the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, and the Acts of the Council were both signed on his behalf by one of the priests of his church, Theodosios 8: Riedinger II 2. 796, lines 2-4, 797, lines 2-4 (= Mansi XI 653, 654) ("
