Optatos 2 was possibly the name of the abbot of the monastery St Benedict at Monte Cassino; in 752 he was sent with Azzo 1 to the Lombard king Aistulf 1 by pope Stephen III (II) (Stephanos 8) to persuade him to drop his demand for the subjection of Rome; their mission was a failure: Lib. Pont. 94. 6-7.
