Nikephoros 1 was a native of Armenia (not of Pergamon; see Philippikos 1): Agatho Diac. (Mansi XII 192). Father of Philippikos Bardanes (the future emperor Philippikos; see Philippikos 1): Agatho Diac., Theoph. AM 6194 (Φιλιππικόν, τὸν υἱὸν Νικηφόρου τοῦ πατρικίου), Zon. XIV 24. 7, 25. 17, 25. 21, Leo Gramm. 167. He was a patrikios: Theoph. AM 6159 (Νικηφόρον τὸν πατρίκιον), Theoph. AM 6194 (cited above), Zon. XIV 24. 7, Leo Gramm. 167. In 668/669 (more probably 667/ 668) he was sent with an army to oppose the rebel Saborios 1: Theoph. AM 6159. His name is given as Bardanes in Zonaras XIV 25. 17, 25. 21.
