Mamalos 1 was a primikerios in 782 (Μάμαλον τὸν πριμικήριον); he and Konstaes 1 were sent to the court of Charlemagne (Karoulos 1) to arrange the betrothal of the emperor Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8) to Karoulos 1's daughter Erythro 1 (Rotrud); when their mission succeeded they left Elissaios 1 behind to teach Erythro 1 the necessary Greek language and customs: Theoph. AM 6274. On the primikerios, cf. Oikonomides, Listes, p. 300 (both a dignity and a title, held by eunuchs in the imperial palace). Mamalos 1 was probably a highly placed and trusted member of the eunuch staff of the palace.
