Makarios 8 is referred to as "abba Makar", and was presumably a monk; he assisted Epiphanios 46 and others in attacking St Ioannikios (Ioannikios 2) in his cell above the monastery of Antidios, when Ioannikios 2 was in his ninety-second year (in c. 844/845); they tried to burn him out; the others, including Makarios 8, gave up the attack but Epiphanios 46 remained implacable: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 51 (ἀββᾶ Μάκαρ). Possibly a monk at the monastery of Baleou, like Epiphanios 46.
