Leo 8 was nicknamed Koutzodaktylos (Λέοντα ... τὸν Κουτζοδάκτυλον: Theoph. AM 6263); he was a former abbot (Λέοντα ἀπὸ ἀββάδων) in 772 when he was sent with Leo 7 by the strategos of the Thrakesioi, Michael 5, to sell all monasteries and convents throughout the Thrakesion theme, together with their contents: Theoph.
