Called Iohannes Fabriacus, Ioannes 436 was the fifth of the magistri militum who ruled Venetia (Venice) for a time in the middle of the eighth century; each of them ruled for one year; he was the successor of Ioubianos 2: Chron. Alt., p. 116 ("Iohannes Fabriacus magister militum sedit ann. I"), John the Deacon, Cron. Ven., p. 96 ("post decessum predictorum quatuor militum magistrorum, quintus eiusdem prefecture ordinatur, qui Iohannes Fabriacus vocabatur"). After a year he was blinded by the Venetici: John the Deacon, Cron. Ven., p. 96. The Venetici then abandoned rule by magistri militum and returned to rule by duces (doges), and Ioannes 436 was succeeded by Deusdedit 3: John the Deacon, Cron. Ven., p. 97, cf. Chron. Alt., p. 116.
