Hypatia 3 was a granddaughter of St Philaretos (Philaretos 1), third daughter of Ioannes 12 and Eirene 2, sister of Bardas 1, Eustathios 1, Niketas 8, Philaretos 3, Helene 1 and Euphemia 1: Nicetas, Vita Philareti, p. 141, lines 28-29 (αἱ δὲ θυγατέρες αὐτῆσ: Ἑλένη καὶ Εὐφημία καὶ Ὑπατία). She died in infancy, shortly before the death of her grandfather Philaretos 1 (which occurred in 792): Nicetas, Vita Philareti, p. 163, lines 20-21. The family was of Armenian descent; see Maria 2.
