Georgios 10 was the father of Philaretos 1 (St Philaretos) (Φιλάρετος ... υἱὸς ὑπάρχων Γεωργίου τοῦ Φερωνύμου); the family is described as noble and rich (ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἦν εὐγενὴς ... ἦν πλούσιος σφόδρα, originating from Pontus and Galatia: Nicetas, Vita Philareti, p. 113 (Γεώργιος ὁ Φερώνυμος). Presumably he was a landowner in Pontus and Galatia as well as in Paphlagonia since his son had estates in those places. Philaretos 1 was born in 702. The family was of Armenian origins; see Maria 2 (his great-granddaughter). On his name Pheronymos (probably a nickname), see Winkelmann, Quellenstudien, pp. 149-150. His wife was possibly called Anna; see Anna 16 and cf. Synax. Eccl. Const. 269, 32ff.
