Daniel 16 was a monk in the monastery of Kathara; he is recorded in one of the sermons of Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), dateable between 806 and 814, when Daniel was apparently second in command in the monastery to Barsanouphios 2: Theod. Stud., Catech. Magna II 68 (p. 478 Papadopoulos-Kerameus). Presumably deutereuon (δευτερεύων) of the monastery of Kathara.
