Barsanouphios 2 was a Stoudite monk; Barsanouphios 2 was one of the ἀδελφοί about whom Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) wished to be kept informed during the Moechian schism and whom he proposed to identify by means of a code letter, for security reasons; he is referred to by Theodoros 15 as τέκνον: Theod. Stud., Ep. 41 (a. 809/811) (and cf. Euprepianos 1). Later Barsanouphios 2 reached a position of responsibility in the monastery of Kathara in Bithynia, apparently thanks to Theodoros 15: Theod. Stud., Catech. magna II 31, 64, 65, 68 (pp. 231, 449ff., 461 Papadopoulos-Kerameus). See also Fatouros, p. 186*, note 157 (possibly he later became hegoumenos of the monastery of Kathara).
