In 843 or 844 Andronikos 3 was one of those sent by the empress Theodora 2 to convert or exterminate the Paulicians; the violence of their persecution drove the Paulicians to revolt (see Karbeas 1 for dates and circumstances): Theoph. Cont. IV 16 (p. 165) (ὁ τοῦ Δουκὸς), Scyl., p. 92 (ὁ τοῦ Δουκὸς Ἀνδρόνικος). His colleagues were Leo 109 and Soudales 1.
