Georgo 1 was the elder daughter (παῖδες) of Michael 7 (the emperor Michael I) and Prokopia 1; sister of Theophano 2; she had three brothers, Theophylaktos 9, Staurakios 12 and Niketas (Ignatios 1); she and her sister lived and died as nuns (αἳ καὶ παρθενικῶς τὸν ὅλον βίον καὶ μοναχικῶς διαβιώσασαι μακαρίως ἐκοιμήθησαν): Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 492A. Possibly she is the unnamed sister (ἀδελφὴν) of Ignatios 1 who with their mother Prokopia 1 gave help to clergy and monks who suffered from the persecution of iconophiles in the time of the emperor Theophilos 5: Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 500A. She presumably entered a monastery with her parents and brothers and sister when Michael 7 retired from the throne in 813 in favour of Leo V (Leo 15): Theoph. AM 6305 (p. 502), Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 492A-C. The children of Michael I (Michael 7) were exiled with their mother when Michael retired: Scyl., p. 9.
