Zosimas 3 was a monk and hesychast, to whom the patriarch Photius (Photios 1) addressed a letter, dateable between May 866 and September 867; he had sent Photios 1 a gift of chestnuts and mushrooms (κάστανα καὶ ἀμανῖται) from the hills, and Photios 1 wrote a letter of thanks, hoping soon to visit him in person but promising to send another if it should not be possible; Zosimas 3 is styled σου τὴν πατρικὴν ὁσιότητα: Photius, Ep. 25 (I 76 Laourdas-Westerink) (addressed Ζωσιμᾷ μονάζοντι καὶ ἡσυχαστῇ).
