Ziyadat-Allah 1 was Aghlabid emir of Africa from 817 to 838. In response to requests from Euphemios 1 he proclaimed Euphemios emperor and sent forces to attack Sicily, under the reign of the emperor Michael II (Michael 10); the island eventually fell to the Arabs: Theoph. Cont. II 27 (p. 82) (τὸν Ἀφρικῆς ... ἀμεραμνουνῆ) (unnamed), Zon. XV 24. 24-26 (τῷ τῆς Ἀφρικῆς ἀμηρᾷ ... καὶ ἡ μὲν ὑπὸ τοὺς Ἀγαρηνοὺς τὸν τρόπον τοῦτον ἐγένετο). Cf.
