Zacharias 17 was one of the twelve monks (ἀδελφοί) whom Stephen the Younger (Stephanos 2) received under him when he founded the monastery on Mt Auxentius; described as wise in the ways of the spirit (καὶ μετ' αὐτὸν Ζαχαρίαν, ὡς ἀληθῶς εἰπεῖν, ἄνθρωπον τὴν πνευματικὴν αἰδῶ σεσοφισμένον): Vita Steph.
