Uqbah 2 was an Arab commander. In AH 49 (Feb. 669-Jan. 670) `Uqbah b. Nafi led a sea raid against the Byzantines and spent the winter with the Egyptians: Tabari XVIII, p. 94. Under Mu`awiya 1 he conquered Ifriqiyyah (Africa) and laid out the site for the city of Qayrawan (Kairouan); in AH 50 (Jan. 670-Jan. 671) he was removed from Africa when Mu`awiya put Maslama 2 in charge of all North Africa: Tabari XVIII, pp. 102-103.
