Theosebo 1 was the wife of St Philaretos (Philaretos 1), mother of Ioannes 12, Hypatia 1 and Euanthia 1: Nicetas, Vita S. Philareti, p. 115, lines 3-7 (εἶχε δὲ καὶ σύμβιον τοὔνομα Θεοσεβοῦν), cf. pp. 129, 131 (where her name is spelt both Θεοσεβες and Θεοσεβου). After the death of Philaretos 1 (in December 792), Thosebo 1 retired (from Constantinople) to her own country (presumably Amnia in Paphlagonia), taking with her adequate wealth; with this she rebuilt all the churches which had formerly suffered damage from the Persians (ὑπὸ τῶν Περσῶν); she gave them rich endowments and also founded monasteries and hospices for the poor; she then returned to Constantinople to die and be buried beside her husband: Nicetas, Vita S. Philareti, p. 165.
