Theophylaktos 40 was bishop of Tauris (see below); owner of a seal dateable perhaps to the ninth or tenth century: Ebersolt, "Sceaux byzantins", p. 240, no. 389. Obv.: κ(ύρι)ε [β]οήθει [τῷ] σῷ δ[ού]λ(ῳ). Rev.: Θεοφυ[λάκτῳ] ἐπισ[κόπῳ] Ταύ[ρ]ις. The identity of Taura/Tauris is uncertain. The identification with Dara suggested by Ebersolt in BZ XV, p. 224, is unconvincing.
