Theophilos 44 was a basilikos spatharios; owner of a seal dateable to the second half of the ninth century: Zacos and Veglery 2518. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Κύριε βοήθει, with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: +Θεοφ - ιλω βασι - ληκ' σπαθ - αριω. The beta is in the form of a Roman capital "R", indicating a date not before the first half of the ninth century.
