Theophanes 53 was an asekretis; he was the addressee of a letter from Ignatius the Deacon (Ignatios 9) accompanying a little book (βιβλιδάριον) of secular proverbs compiled by Ignatios 9 and sent to him; he is asked to return the book within fifteen days; he is addressed as ὦ φιλόμουσε: Ignatius Diac., Ep. 50 (addressed Θεοφάνει ἀσηκρῆτις).
