This man is probably identical with the Theophanes who owned a number of seals, all dated to 727/ 728, indiction eleven under the emperors Leo III (Leo 3) and Constantine V (Konstantinos 7), when he was kommerkiarios of a number of apothekai; see Zacos and Veglery, pp. 315ff.

Possibly owner of several other seals dated to 728/729 by the indiction: Likhachev, "Datirovaniye", 163-164, no. 1 (= Dositheos (sic), patrician, basilikos protospatharios, general logothetes and kommerkiarios of the apotheke of Bithynia, Salutaris and Pacatiana) and 164-165, no. 2 (Theophanes patrician, basilikos protospatharios, general logothetes and kommerkiarios of the apotheke of Bithynia, Salutaris and Pacatiana) (= Laurent, "Bulletin" I, 623, no. 3, 624, no. 11, and Antoniadis-Bibicou, Douanes, 226, no. 13 and 14).
