Theodoulos 1 was a monk, one of the brothers at the monastery of St Zacharias (at Atroa); during work to enlarge the Church of St Zacharias, Theodoulos 1 was struck by a boulder and knocked into a ravine, but emerged unharmed after Peter of Atroa (Petros 34) had made the sign of the cross over him: Vita Petr. Atr. 46, p. 161, Vita Petr. Atr. Retractata 64 (pp. 120-121). The date was during the reign of Michael II (Michael 10), after the persecution of iconophiles had slackened.
