Sophronios 3 was a monk and the addressee of a letter from the patriarch Photius (Photios 1), in which he is encouraged to avoid sin; the date of the letter is uncertain, and so was between 859 and 886: Photius, Ep. 43 (I 90 Laourdas-Westerink) (addressed Σωφρονίῳ μονάζοντι).
