Skleros 2 was described as a co-ruler (τοῦ συνάρχοντος αὐτοῦ) with the emir of Melitene, Amr 2, with whom he fought a civil war, which for a time interrupted Amr 2's attacks on Byzantine territory: Theoph. Cont. IV 16 (pp. 166-167) (τοῦ Σκληροῦ - οὕτως ἐλέγετο), Scyl., p. 93 (ὁ τοῦ Σκληροῦ οὗτος ἐλέγετο). Presumably he was an Arab, in spite of his name as given in the Greek sources.
