He had abandoned the monastic life, together with Elias 23, and Theodoros 15, in a letter to Elias 23, expressed the hope that both would return to the monastery (σὺν τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου Σίλᾳ ἐλευσόμενος: p. 642, line 28): Theod. Stud., Ep. 453, p. 642 (written between 821 and\n 826). His death is recorded by Theodoros 15 in a catechetical letter to his disciples (ἤδη παρῆλθεν καὶ ὁ ἀδελφὸς Σίλας: p. 745, lines 47-48): Theod. Stud., Ep. 503, pp. 744-745 (written in\n February 824, 825 or 826) (the same letter also mentions the deaths of Prokopios 19 and Theosostos 1).
