Seon 1 was a palatinos; he was one of the senior officers captured when the Roman army under Michael III (Michael 11) was routed during the siege of Samosata (in c. 856/857); he remained in captivity until he died, even though ransom money came, on orders from Karbeas 1; under questioning he allegedly claimed that his body was not troubled by erotic desires, which Karbeas 1 interpreted to signify that God did not wish him to have his freedom: Theoph. Cont. IV 23 (pp. 176-177).
