A monk in the monastery of Pelekete in Bithynia, Sabas 11 became hegoumenos of the monastery in succession to St Macarius (Makarios 9), of whose life he wrote an account: Acta S. Macarii, title (συγγραφεὶς παρὰ Σάββα μοναχοῦ), cf. 23, p. 163, lines 17-19 (Σάββας ὁ τῶν σῶν κατορθωμάτων αὐτόπτης διεξῆλθον, ἑτέρῳ μὲν χρησάμενος, αὐτὸς δὲ τὸν λόγον προστησάμενος), lines 25-26 (ἐγὼ ... ὁ οὐκ ἄξιος τῆς ποίμνης σου διάδοχος).
He is probably identical with Sabas who with Dorotheos 8 was present with Makarios 9 when he died on the island of Aphousia and prepared his grave; they were his two leading disciples (τοῖς προεστῶσι τῶν μαθητῶν Δωροθέῳ τε καὶ Σάββᾳ): Acta S. Macarii 16, p. 162, line 4.
