Poimen 1 was a Stoudite monk; in 821 he was joint addressee with Laurentios 4, Symeon 27, Dionysios 6, Litoios 1 and others of a letter from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite); during the iconoclast persecution under Leo V (Leo 15) they had separated themselves from the monks in the Stoudite monastery under the iconoclast Leontios 29 and joined those who were persecuted and scattered: Theod. Stud., Ep. 433, pp. 608-610 (addressed τοῖς ἠγαπημένοις πνευματικοῖς τέκνοις τε καὶ ἀδελφοῖς Λαυρεντίῳ, Συμεών, Διονυσίῳ, Ποίμενι, Λιτοϊῳ καὶ τοῖς λοιποῖς ὧδε κἀκεῖσε διεσπαρμένοις).
