Phortounios 1 was archbishop of Carthage (see Riedinger II 2. 652, lines 5-6 (= Mansi XI 593): Φορτουνίου τοῦ γενομένου ἀρχιεπισκόπου Καρθαγένης); he visited Constantinople during the patriarchate of Paul II (Paulos 2) (641-653); being uncertain where to take his place at divine service, before or behind the metropolitans present in the city, he had Paulos 2 investigate precedents in the Acts of the Fifth Ecumenical Council: Riedinger II 2. 652 (= Mansi XI 593-596).
