Philon 1 was possibly a Stoudite monk; he is mentioned together with Philippos 15 as recently dead in a letter written by Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) in 810/811; Philon 1 had suffered persecution while remaining loyal to Theodoros 15 and his cause (during the Moechian schism, in c. 809): Theod. Stud., Ep. 49, pp. 139-144.
