Philaretos 4 was the father of Niketas 43 (of Medikion - τοῦ δὲ πατρὸς, Φιλάρετος ἦν; ἐκ Φιλαρέτου πατρὸς προσαγορευομένου); his wife (τῇ τοῦτον τεκούσῃ νομίμως συναφθεὶς) died eight days after the birth of Niketas 43; Philaretos 4 himself subsequently became a monk (θεοσεβὴς οὗτος καὶ θεάρεστος, ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς τῇ τοῦ μονήρους καταξιωθεὶς εἰς ὕστερον πολιτείᾳ): Vita Nicetae Medicii 4. Niketas 43 was born at Kaisareia in Bithynia.
