Petronios 3 was a Stoudite monk; he is recorded in a sermon of Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15) as having deserted the Stoudite community some time in the early years of the ninth century, probably at the same time as Eulalios 3: Theod. Stud., Catech. Magna II 43 (p. 307 Papadopoulos-Kerameus).
