Paulos 84 was a monk who had apostatised, he received a letter from Photius (Photios 1) written between August 859 and April 862; he is said to have deserted Photios 1 and is urged to repent and return; Photios 1 cites the precedents of St Peter and St Thomas if he does and of Judas if he does not: Photius, Ep. 7 (addressed Παύλῳ μοναχῷ ἀποστατήσαντι).
