Nikolaos 5 was a monk; in 787 he attended the first session (on 24 September 787) of the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) as representative of the see of Mokissos (in Cappadocia Secunda): Mansi XII 994 (Νικολάου μοναχοῦ καὶ τοποτηρητοῦ τῆς μητροπόλεως Μωκισσοῦ). At later sessions this see was represented by Gregorios 22, a priest of Constantinople.
