Nikephoros 70 was bishop of Caria; he was the addressee of three letters from Ignatius the Deacon (Ignatios 9): Ignatius Diac., Epp. 9, 19, 20 (all addressed Νικηφόρῳ ἐπισκόπῳ Καρίας). When Ignatios 9 became bishop of Nikaia, Nikephoros 70 wrote a letter to him containing advice on the conduct of his new office; the letter arrived on the day of Ignatios 9's ordination; Ignatios 9, disappointed that Nikephoros 70 was not there in person, looked forward to meeting him again at Easter in Constantinople; he is alluded to as τῆς ὑμετέρας ὁσιότητος: Ep. 9. Nikephoros 70 arranged a marriage contract for a strator (Anonymus 765) at Constantinople and was entrusted with its administration but later, apparently in breach of the terms of the contract, he proposed to transfer a property which had been inherited by a woman (Anonyma 105) and her children from her husband (Anonymus 767) to a man described as his in-law (Anonymus 766); the strator planned to appeal to the patriarch but was dissuaded by Ignatios 9 who instead wrote to Nikephoros 70 trying to persuade him not to proceed; Ignatios 9 had written to him some time previously via one of Nikephoros 70's clergy (Anonymus 768); he is styled ἡ ἱερὰ ὑμῶν νῆψις, τὴν ὑμετέραν πατρικὴν ἁγιότητα and τῇ ὑμετέρᾳ ὁσιότητι: Ignatius Diac., Ep. 19. The third letter to Nikephoros 70 was written by Ignatios 9 following receipt of a letter from Nikephoros 70 indicating that he had decided against paying a visit to Ignatios 9; he had also requested information on certain matters (undefined) about which Ignatios 9 can give no news apart from hoping that it will soon be satisfactorily concluded; Nikephoros 70 is styled ἡ ὑμετέρα ἱερὰ ὁσιότης or similar: Ignatius Diac., Ep. 20.
