Nikephoros 11 is introduced as Nikephoros Maleinos (Νικηφόρος ὁ Μαλεῖνος): Leo Gramm. 247, Georg. Mon. Cont. 833, Ps.-Symeon 680. Thereafter he is referred to in all sources as Maleinos (ὁ Μαλεῖνος). In summer 866 when the revolt of Symbatios 1 and Georgios 57 Peganes occurred in Opsikion and Thrakesioi, Nikephoros 11 spread leaflets among the people asking them to capture the men and not allow civil war to develop; later (perhaps during the winter, cf. Symbatios 1) he arrested Symbatios in an inn at Keltzine (in Chaldia) and delivered him to the emperor in the palace of St Mamas in Constantinople: Leo Gramm. 247-248, Georg. Mon. Cont. 833-834, Ps.-Symeon 680. Cf. Winkelmann, Quellenstudien, pp. 174-175, 191, 195-196, 210.
