Michael 9 was bishop of Nazianzos in Cappadocia Secunda; in 692 he attended the Quinisext Council in Constantinople and signed the canons: Ohme, Bischofsliste, p. 169, no. 219 (= Mansi XI 1005) (Μιχαὴλ ἀνάξιος ἐπίσκοπος πόλεως Ναζιανζοῦ τῆς δευτέρας τῶν Καππαδοκῶν ἐπαρχίας).
