Megistos 1 was the father of Theodoros 169, to whom he bequeathed a property on the Via Tiburtina five miles from Rome; it included an oratory of St Cecilia; Theodoros 169 was his elder son: Lib. Pont. 93. 25 ("Theodorus maior filius Megisti cata Xanthi"). It is uncertain whether "cata Xanthi" is part of his personal name or a family name. Kata + genitive in names seems usually to indicate a relationship, apparently one of dependence, on the person whose name appears in the genitive. It is also uncertain whether "cata Xanthi" should be retained in the genitive or written as "Cataxanthus".
