A Stoudite monk; Maximos 2 is named together with Leontios 29 and Klemens 1 in a letter of Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), as monks who had deserted the cause of icon veneration: Theod. Stud., Ep. 302, pp. 444-445 (dateable after the winter of 817/818). One of the unnamed followers of Leontios 29; according to Theodoros 15 they should be forgiven if they repented: Theod. Stud., Ep. 326, pp. 467-468.
