Matthias 2 was a basilikos mandator (or possibly kandidatos) and droungarios; owner of a seal dateable between the mid eighth century and the mid ninth: Zacos and Veglery 2165. The name and titles read: Ματτηίᾳ βασιλικῷ μανδάτορι καὶ δρουγγαρίῳ. According to Zacos and Veglery the μ of μανδάτορι is uncertain and could be read as a κ, giving the reading κανδιδάτῳ.
