Masgad 1 was a basilikos spatharios; owner of a seal of uncertain date, possibly eighth or ninth century: Konstantopoulos, JIAN 9, 533e. The name and title read: Μασγὰδ βασιλικῷ σπαθαρίῳ ...; he was perhaps an Arab, to judge by his name.
