Maria 5 was the first wife of Basilios 7 (the future emperor Basil I); a native of Macedonia (probably meaning the region of Adrianople, where Basilios 7 himself originated); the emperor Michael III (Michael 11) forced Basilios 7 to divorce her and sent her back to her homeland with great wealth: Leo Gramm. 242, Georg.
